1Agreement and award administration
After sponsor selection, staff may negotiate terms, coordinate acceptance, create the award record, establish accounts, and communicate responsibilities. Agreements can affect publication, data, confidentiality, intellectual property, security, indemnification, and termination.
No individual investigator should accept an award on behalf of the institution unless formally authorized.
2Ongoing support and oversight
The office may support prior approvals, amendments, subawards, reports, invoicing coordination, financial monitoring, and closeout. Some institutions divide these duties among central offices, departments, and finance units.

3Policy, systems, and improvement
Sponsored programs leaders translate external requirements into institutional policy, training, forms, workflows, and systems. They also use data to understand workload, delays, error patterns, sponsor issues, and capacity.
Good service does not mean saying yes to every request. It means providing a timely, reasoned path to a responsible decision.
